We will be celebrating the deliciousness of pancakes with a Pancake Day social on Tuesday 9th February at 7:30pm at the house of our social secretary’s house (23 Highbury Villas, Bristol, BS2 8BY). The evening will inevitably be filled with fun and games – likely of a traditional theme. Feel free to bring your favourite toppings.

On Sunday 7th February we will be returning to Leigh Woods to continue the tree felling in the Nightingale Valley with the National Trust. We will be out from about 10am to 4pm and likely head to the pub or Union afterwards.
If you would like a place on this trip please email Emily by 5pm on Thursday 4th. Last term’s trip to Leigh Woods was oversubscribed so if you missed out on that one and would like to this Sunday you will be guaranteed a place.
We hope you have had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! BUCG will be starting off 2016 with it annual residential trip to Alfrick in Worcestershire on the weekend of the 30th and 31st January. We will be working on the Ravenshill Woodland Reserve, which is run by the lovely Trevor and Annette, and staying at the Village Hall (always a hilarious evening, likely filled with fun and games such as dodgeball, sardines and Werewolf). We’ve been visiting Alfrick for many years and it’s definitely one of the highlights of the conservation calendar.
The cost of the trip is £15, which is subsidised by the society and includes travel, accommodation, breakfast, lunch and snacks. We will be going out to the pub for dinner on Saturday night so remember to bring additional money for that.
If you would like to go please email Emily by 5pm on Friday 15th January. We will be hiring a minibus for this trip but the more the merrier so if you could drive to provide us with additional transport please contact Emily (BUCG will of course cover the cost of fuel).
On Sunday 6th December we will be continuing the scrub clearance and upkeep at Providence Plantation out at Long Ashton. We’ll be getting the bus from Bristol Bus Station at around 9:30am and aiming to be back by 4pm.
Providence Plantation is a piece of woodland owned by Bristol University and is an ongoing project for BUCG. We aim to improving the biodiversity and pathways of the wood. It’s great fun out in the fresh air and, as always, no prior experience is needed. If your interested in getting involved please email Emily by 5pm on Monday 30th November (you must be a member to participate).
On Sunday 15th November we will be going to Leigh Woods to fell some trees. National Trust ranger Bill will be guiding us to clear the trees along a footpath. This will allow light to reach the forest floor creating a more diverse habitat. We will also make a bonfire from the wood we have cut. This is one of the best trips of the year as felling trees is very satisfying, plus we get to burn stuff!
We are expecting to be out from 10am to 4pm and the head to a pub afterwards. If you would like place on the trip please email Emily by 5pm Wednesday 11th November. (Please note that this trip is only open to members.)
On Sunday 25th October we will be joining the Avon Wildlife Trust to do some conservation work on one of their site; what and where exactly is yet to be decided. We will be meeting at the AWT offices on Jacob’s Wells Road at 9:45am and heading off on a minibus. We expect to be back in Bristol by about 4pm.
