To celebrate the summer and de-stress for exam season we will be having a picnic on the Downs on Monday 6th June. We will be meeting at the water tower at 1pm for food and fun in the sun. Feel free to bring along some food and drink.

We will be celebrating the deliciousness of pancakes with a Pancake Day social on Tuesday 9th February at 7:30pm at the house of our social secretary’s house (23 Highbury Villas, Bristol, BS2 8BY). The evening will inevitably be filled with fun and games – likely of a traditional theme. Feel free to bring your favourite toppings.
The festive winter season has arrived and BUCG will be celebrating it with our traditional Christmas meal on Monday 7th December at 8:30pm. This year we will be dining at the Racks Bar & Kitchen.
You can pick your three courses for £15 from the Goodwill section of their menu. Please note that the vegetarian main course option has changed – they are no longer serving the gnocchi dish and instead there will be traditional roast trimmings with either a veggie burger and gravy or a goats’ cheese, leek and tomato tart. To guarantee food for yourself please send your orders to Emma by Monday 16th November – only if you are definitely going.
On Tuesday 3rd November we will be taking part in the pub quiz at the Brass Pig. We aim to get there around 7:30-7:45pm to get tables and form our teams ready for the 8 o’clock start. There is a £1 entrance fee. And remember: don’t worry about getting the answers – it’s all about having a fun evening!
Update: Because of the recent rain we decided it was to damp for a bonfire on Friday so we went to the Brewhouse instead. If you were looking forward to fun and games, food and flames in the forest fret not – the Halloween Providence bonfire will be happening on Sunday 1st November!
On Friday 30th October we will be having an evening Halloween bonfire social at Providence Plantation. A fun time will be had playing games and toasting marshmallows! Feel free to wear some spooky fancy dress – a prize will be given to the best one! Food will also be welcome. We recommend bringing a torch, warm clothes and maybe even a blanket. If people want to join later we can meet you at the bus stop by Providence Lane in Long Ashton. Return buses are at every 20 past and 20 to the hour so you can stay as long or little as you like.
Should it be raining we will instead go to a pub for the evening and return to Providence another day for the bonfire.
On Monday 5th October at 7:45pm we will be going to a pub quiz at the Brewhouse & Kitchen on Cotham Hill. Since pub quizzes are an important pastime of any university student, we thought we’d start as soon as possible. Everyone is free to join us for a relaxed evening of drinks, chatting and quizzing. Be sure to join the event on Facebook.
Join us by the Clifton Suspension Bridge on Sunday 27th September at 1pm where we will be meeting for a picnic at Ashton Court. As well as being a great opportunity to meet for a chat and get to know the group, you can fly frisbees in a fun-filled frolic and feast from a farrago of food. Fortunately the forecast is for fair weather but if it is in-fact forlorn we can fall-back to the nearby pub, The Mall.
Update: The sun was out for the final social of the academic year. Free from exams stress and fuelled by picnic food, fun was found running around the Downs after frisbees, balls and fellow conservationist (the latter two often hidden in dense thickets). The social extended into the early evening, in part due to Jimmy’s impressively dedicated and impossible to find hiding spot.
On Saturday 6th June will be having a picnic on the Downs to celebrate the end of exams and the beginning of the summer holiday. Feel free to bring any food, drinks and games. We are meeting at the water tower at 2pm and should be nearby if you want to join us later. You can find the event on Facebook here.
Fortunately the forecast is for some suitably sunny weather though we can go to the Kings Arms at the top of Whiteladies Road in case of rain.
Update: Much fun was had over two rounds of laser tag – a free-for-all followed by a team game – with mix of panicked hopeful pulls on the triggers and unorthodox tactics. We headed to a nearby pub for food and drink to recoup the spent energy.
We will be playing some laser tag on Wednesday 25th March at 7:30pm at Laser Fusion in Broadmead (we will meet up there). After exhausting ourselves with fun running around trying to shoot each other with lasers in the dark we will most likely have a well earned rest and drink at a pub.
