Our first two trips of the year will be Give-it-a-Go taster trips on Sunday 6th and 13th October. We will be heading to the university-owned woodland of Providence Plantation which we help to manage. On both days we will meet at 10 am at the Students’ Union and 10:30 am at Bristol Bus & Coach Station. You do not need to be a member to come along just email to let us know if you would like to take part.

We are having a ‘Give it a Go’ trip on Sunday 10th Febuary. This will be just like our regular trips to Providence Plantation, but will also be a chance for potential new members to see what we get up to at BUCG. Therefore, you do not need to be a member yet to come along, however current members are of course still welcome!
As this is a Give it a Go session and is open to everyone, I will not be asking for sign ups. Simply turn up at Bristol SU at 10:15am.
You will need the things on this list (including money for the bus).
If you couldn’t make it to the first Taster Trip and still want to see how we roll, come along on Sunday 14th October for a great day of conservation work at Providence Plantation, a reserve in Long Ashton owned by the University and managed by us. If you came on the first Taster Trip, but enjoyed it so much that you can’t wait to do some more conservation, you’re welcome to come along again! This trip is open to non-members as well as members, so if you’re not sure if you want to join yet, this will be a great way to help you make up your mind, and wonderful day out with some great people.

On Sunday 2nd and 9th October we will be having free taster trips to Providence Plantation. Providence Plantation is a piece of University-owned woodland by Long Ashton that BUCG helps manage. We will be cutting back brambles to keep pathways and butterfly glades clear.
You do not have to be a member to come along and the bus fair will be subsidised. Places are limited to if you do want to come along please email Ollie by 12pm on Wednesday 28th September.
On Sunday 4th October we will be having a taster trip to Providence Plantation. This trip is open to everyone – including non-members – and is a good opportunity to learn about the sort of stuff we do.
Providence Plantation is a piece of university-owned woodland out at Long-Ashton that is an ongoing project for BUCG. We will be clearing overgrown scrub and improving pathways to improve the biodiversity of the wood. It’s great fun out in the fresh air and, as always, no prior experience is needed. Update: Despite the cold, rain and mud many brambles were cleared and a good time was had. Some of us headed to the pub for some warm food once we were back in town (lesson for next time – leave more time to get to the bus stop). We hope that everyone enjoyed the trip and we see you on others.
On Sunday 22nd February we will be running a taster trip to Providence Plantation. This trip is specifically aimed at non-members as it will provide an opportunity to get an idea of what we do first hand. This event is supported by UBU as part of the Richmond Building re-opening.
Providence Plantation is a piece of woodland owned by the University near Long Ashton, just outside of Bristol. It is an ongoing project for BUCG and UBU.
To get the we will be travelling by bus from Bristol bus station so be sure to bring money for the bus fare. A student day ticket is £3 (£4.40 without discount). The event itself is free. Please email Jess if you would like to come along.
If the trip is oversubscribed names will be picked out of a hat with non-members getting priority. You will be email to let you know if you have or have not got a place on the trip.
Update: We managed to get a decent amount of scrub cleared. It was good to see plenty of new faces and we hope to see you on subsequent events.
The first proper conservation trips of the year are open to non-members and members alike. This is a great way to find out first-hand more about what we do if you are considering joining. These taster trips to Providence Plantation – a piece of university-owned woodland near Long Ashton to the west of the city.
The management of Providence Plantation is an ongoing, long-term project with which BUCG is heavily involved. We aim to improve the biodiversity of the site while allowing the public to enjoy the wood.
Tasks for the day will most likely include: bramble removal, butterfly glade construction, path maintenance and coppicing.
These taster trips will take place on Sunday 5th October, 10am-4pm and Wednesday 8th October, 1-5pm. If you want to attend one of these days please email Jess by 5pm on Friday 3rd October or Sunday 5th October respectively.
We will meet at Bristol Bus Station and travel by bus to the wood. So unless you are making your own way there by bike be sure to bring money for the bus fare. A student day ticket is £2.80 (£4 without discount). The event itself is free.
