Providence Plantation nature walk
On Sunday 9th December we will be heading to Providence Platation for a nature walk guided by experts from the Bristol Naturalist Society. This will be a great opportunity for you to get to our regular woodland a bit better and to learn what sort of flora and fauna you can look out for on our trips there.
Christmas cinema social
On the evening of Thursday 6th December we will be holding the first of two Christmas events: our Christmas cinema social!
Join us for a trip to a private cinema on the Christmas Steps to watch Love Actually and eat lots of festive snacks. There will be a cost of £5.50 per person and we’ll be getting there for 6:30pm, and as there are limited spaces in this cinema places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. If you would like to come please email Lucy ASAP.
If you miss out on this, don’t panic! We love Christmas so much here at Conservation Group that we’ll be having another Christmas social, which will be open to everyone.
Brownsea Island Weekend
On the weekend of the 24th-25th November we will be going to Brownsea Island in Dorset. This will be our first residential trip of the year and a first for Conservation Group, as we have never been there before. We will be working with the National Trust who run most of the island. We will be leaving Bristol early on Saturday morning, staying overnigh before returning late on Sunday evening. The trip will cost approximately £30, however, this depends on numbers, so may change.
If you are interested in coming on this trip, please email Lucy by 7pm Friday 19th October. Please register you interest even if you are not completely sure you can come yet, as we need an idea of numbers. Also, if you would like to come and have a car and would be willing to drive (it is about a 2 hour drive), please let Lucy know (you will be reimbursed for fuel).
Halloween-Bonfire Night Social
What’s better than Halloween and Bonfire Night? Why, combining the two into one fun-filled night in the woods, of course!
On the evening of the 1st of November we will be heading to Providence Plantation for a night of eating, chatting and games around a bonfire.
Browne’s Folly
On Sunday 28th October we will going on a trip to Browne’s Folly to help the Avon Wildlife Trust with some conservation work. This is sure to be a great day, and will be a fantastic chance to learn about conservation from the experts. There will be a £3 cost for this trip, which you can bring along on the day.
Up-cycling plastic social
Come along to our social on Tuesday 23rd October and up-cycle some plastic bottles and pots. Create some jazzy plant pots to take home to decorate your place with. Snacks, cake, and all the decorating equipment you’ll need will be provided. If you have any of your own plastic bottles or pots that you want to up-cycle, please bring them along.
The social will start at 7pm and will be held in the Multifaith Chaplaincy on Woodland Road. You can let us know you are going on the Facebook event page.
First Taster Trip
On Sunday 7th October we will heading to Providence Plantation, a piece of university-owned woodland, for our first trip of the year. This is a Taster Trip, so is open to non-members and members alike, so come along if you are still undecided about if you want to join to see if this society is for you. It’ll be a great chance to learn about what we get up to in Conservation Group. We will likey be clearing back summer scrub growth and there will be a tour of the wood.
If you would like to come along please email Lucy, our president, by 7 pm on Wednesday 3rd Octorber.
Providence Plantation clearing and barbeque
The summer holidays are just around the corner so it’s time for our final conservation trip of the year to Providence Plantation! On Sunday 3rd June we will be clearing the butterfly glade to slow doen the flurry of bramble growth over the summer. Then, in the late afternoon, we will have a barbeque. We will supply the barbecue and food like breadbuns and condiments (ketchup etc.), you just need to bring anything you’d like to be barbecued, plus drinks, snacks ect.
This should be a really nice trip to end the year, so even if you haven’t had chance to come to any other trips during term everyone is welcome to come along and try out some conservation work. It would be lovely to see lots of you there before saying bye for the summer!
It may have been a rainy week but the weather is looking lovely on Sunday so where better to spend the day than in the great outdoors! So that we have an idea of numbers, please could you either email our social secretary Cassia or say you are going on the facebook event.
Alfrick Weekend
On the weekend of 10th-11th of Febuary we will be going on our annual residential trip to Alfrick in Wocestershire. We will be working on the Ravenshill Woodland Reserve (where we have been going to for many years) and staying at Alfrick village hall.
The trip is always loads of fun with a meal at a local pub and games in the evening and home cooked lunch from Annette, the wife of Trevor the warden.
Please email Heather ASAP if you would like to go as places are limited. If you do not get a place on this trip you will be given priority on the next residential in March.
